Boat Outfitting FAQs

What you need depends on your vessel, how it will be used, and where you plan to boat. A complete boat setup may include navigation and communication electronics, electrical equipment, safety gear, anchoring and docking equipment, deck hardware, plumbing, lighting, maintenance supplies, fishing equipment, and onboard comfort or entertainment products. Start with essential operating and safety equipment, then build your setup around the way you use your boat.

Start with the equipment needed to safely operate, navigate, secure, and maintain your vessel. Review your navigation electronics, communication equipment, electrical system, safety equipment, anchoring setup, dock lines, fenders, and required onboard gear. From there, you can add fishing equipment, audio, lighting, seating, storage, and other upgrades that make the boat better suited to your adventures.

Compatibility can depend on the boat, engine, existing equipment, dimensions, mounting configuration, voltage, wiring, connections, model year, and manufacturer specifications. Don't rely on appearance alone when replacing a marine part. Verify the product specifications and, when applicable, your existing equipment's model or part number before ordering.
